So very sorry to hear of your loss, CHG.
Wishing you peace in the days ahead and may you find some comfort in the great memories you made.

just wanted to write a tribute to my best friend whom i lost last week, it was one of the most painful experiences i have ever been through.
i have no children, my puppy was my child.
i got him from a golden retriever rescue organization when he was 2. he was recovering from a car accident, still a bit skiddish, but he chose me to take him home (the foster mom said that he never responded to anyone like he did me).. he was always happy to see me, greet me with a toy in his mouth, he never judged me, never cared whether i was "bad association", he was always there when i needed to smile and remembe that i was not alone in the world.

i do not want a funeral.
i especially do not want anyone standing before my family.
telling them who i supposedly ... am!.
If you live in California and wish to donate your body, this registry is the most likely way for it to actually happen from everything I've read.
https://www.donatelifecalifornia.org/
What's the one document that EMT's go looking for the most? (And no smart asses saying the JW Advance Medical Directive please. )
Driver's license. When you register with donatelifecalifornia.org, it actually gets entered into the California DMV's data base so that as soon as Emergency Personnel run your driver's license, they will see you are a bonified organ donor. Minutes count in these situations and having an airtight, legal, authorization to throw your valuable parts on ice is key.
I know someone whose job is counseling bereaving families who may be on the fence about it, to consider organ donation. It sounds like a horrific job, but she is an amazing woman. If I've ever met an "Empath", she's it.

if anyone was under the illusion that all baptized jw children become dedicated solely of their own volition, then hopefully this new video should be a wake-up call.. .

(unfortunately, due to the soundtrack i've chosen, this video is apparently banned in germany.
My brother got baptized at the ripe old age of 12.
6 months later he figured out he was 100% gay.
Fought it until his mid-twenties, then got himself DFed, fully believing God would soon destroy him.
Took about a year for him to see the WT for what it really is.
Such a healthy, family-friendly religion.
BTW, excellent video Cedars. Thanks for sharing it.

@ Finkelstein: Oh Wow!
Thank you for posting that. I wonder if they got "counseled" later?
Probably not.

I'm sure you're calling it spot on, Quendi.
As long as she doesn't buy the equivalent of a $.50 Malawian Social Security card, she should be safe from the men in suits.
All WT snarking aside, she played amazingly strong today. Good for you Serena!

gore vidal's death tuesday in los angeles got me to thinking about writers.
i am a writer myself and i know there are many other writers on this forum.
i wanted to open a discussion on writing in the twenty-first century and get other thoughts, opinions and experiences on this.
Christopher Hitchens summed up my chances of ever creating the Great American Novel with these words:

there are a lot of interesting people that frequent this site.. sometimes, we get an idea of what the posters are really like in "real life".
and i'm sure i could be easily surprised by some that you think might be strong personalities because of their board presence, and in reality, they might be shy in a face to face setting.. i would enjoy meeting simon.
simon used to be terribly annoyed by my posting and now i think he's accepted with tolerance my being here.. farkel seems like a grouchy cantankerous fellow but i think he'd be very interesting company!.
Very happy to have had a luncheon with Da Farkel and my children a couple years ago.
(We'll have to do it again next time we're in your neck of the woods Doug.)
And since I always want what I cannot have:
